Research shows that the macular carotenoids - Lutein, Meso-Zeaxanthin and Zeaxanthin - are found at the back of the eye, in the macula. The macula is a sensitive part of the eye that is responsible for detailed, central vision. Here, the macular carotenoids form the macula pigment, which looks like a yellow spot at the back of the eye.

The body can’t make macular carotenoids, so we have to consume them in our diet. The macular carotenoids used within MacuShield are obtained from Marigolds (Tagetus Erecta), which have been specifically grown for this purpose.
